Commercial Casting

TVC, digital film and print campaign talent

Brief our team Apply as talent

Commercial casting answers to a script and a shot list rather than to a collection. The question is not who is most striking, it is who a viewer accepts instantly as the person in that situation — and who can repeat the beat cleanly on the eleventh take with the light going.

01 — Approach

Cast to the brief, not to a look

A commercial brief carries an age band, a register and a context: the parent in a kitchen, the colleague at a desk, the runner at first light. We build the shortlist against those terms. Where the brief is open we will say which way we read it and why, so the choice is made deliberately rather than inherited from whoever we happened to send first.

02 — Approach

Performance under repetition

Print rewards stillness; film rewards someone who can hit the same mark and the same beat repeatedly without the performance flattening. These are different skills and we do not assume one implies the other. Where a brief needs dialogue we ask for a read at shortlist stage rather than discover the problem on the day.

Usage settled before the shoot

Commercial work turns on usage — territory, media, duration — and that is a commercial term, not an afterthought. It is agreed in writing before the shoot date, so a campaign is not held up by a renewal negotiation after the edit is locked.

Questions

Commercial Casting — common questions

What does a commercial brief need to contain?

Enough to build a shortlist against: age band, the register you want, the context the talent appears in, shoot dates and location, and the usage you need. A script or a reference frame helps more than an adjective. If the usage is undecided, say so — it is quotable either way, but it has to be quoted.

How is usage priced?

It is quoted alongside the talent fee and it varies with territory, media and duration. You see the breakdown with the shortlist, so a wider buyout is a decision you make with the number in front of you rather than one that appears later.

Can you cast an ensemble to look like a family?

Yes, and it is worth briefing as its own problem. Ensemble casting is about how the group reads together — build, colouring, relative height, how they behave in the same frame — so we shortlist combinations rather than individuals and show them to you as a group.
